Disappointing! My husband was staying for a few nights in order to watch the cricket during the Guildford Festival. He deliberately arrived early afternoon in the hope of being able to secure one of the hotel's 40 allocated car parking spaces (these can't be reserved in advance). On arrival, the reception staff were unable to advise him of the procedure necessary, so he ended up parking in the public car park. He had taken food with him in order to take lunch to the cricket ground, but the rooms do not have fridges. There is clearly a cupboard that once contained a fridge, but we understand that they were all removed when the hotel became a Harbour hotel about three years ago - a very retrograde step. There were bottles of water provided in the room – but they were lukewarm. There was an ice bucket in the cupboard, but no sign of where we might be able to find any ice to fill it! I travelled down to join him for the last night and spent an extremely uncomfortable night. The bed had some sort of very lumpy mattress topper strapped to it. In the end, I slept on top of the duvet in an attempt to lessen the effect of the lumps. It was a hot night and it was far too warm to sleep under the heavy duvet, even with the air conditioning running. I pulled off the bottom sheet and used that as a cover. The bathroom is a good size and benefits from both a bath and a walk in shower. However, the lighting is appalling and my attempt at applying make-up in the morning was pretty much guesswork, due to the shadows cast across my face by the recessed spots in the ceiling. This could be a great hotel, but it needs to fix some of these issues. As it stands, it is over-priced.
Beautiful hotel! About 20 mins walk from Guildford station. Stayed here for a wedding at gate street barn so unfortunately didn't get to spend a lot of time here but the hotel is stunning as were the rooms. Breakfast was great with a vast menu. Really enjoyed my stay.
Mandolay Hotel, 36-40 London Rd, Guildford GU1 2AE, UK – 01483 303030
We stayed one night on this lovely hotel on our UK road trip. The rooms ware small but cosy and functional. The beds small as all English beds and a little to soft for my taste. And there was no air conditioning. The bathroom was very small and not so clean, we really missed a shelve to store our stuff. Parking was not included an was 15£ for a day.
Absolutely loved staying here. A great hotel, nice room and located close enough to the centre of town but far enough away not to get any of the night life noise. Front desk were brilliant and very accommodating

I stayed here for 3 nights for business. The room is quite spacious and has a comfortable bed. However, it doesn't have conditioning while during my stay temperature get to 30 degrees outside. As my window was towards railway, it was impossible to keep it open for the whole night. Everything looked quite outdated. The location itself was pretty industrial.
Clean and tidy. No frills, bathroom could do with some maintenance. Restaurant had no salad!

Nice food, plenty of drinks and excellent service. Food was very well cooked, tasty and the portion size was just right. Venison melted in the mouth, as did the fillet steak. Duck salads were well made and dressed to perfection. Our server was Lauren who was polite, pleasant and remembered out orders perfectly. I recommend you ask for her as she delivered our food quickly and efficiently. 10/10.
Fairly quiet for a Sunday lunchtime. Staff unable to guarantee pink beef as told it's cooked medium to well done. Ordered pork instead, no cracking despite it listed on menu and two dry slices of chewy pork were presented. Not great. Water glass served with lipstick on side. All in all very average food and service. Wouldn't rush back.

Delicious Sunday Roast! Enjoyed Roast beef with all the trimmings and a refreshing cranberry juice with a wedge of lime. Didn't give five stars as the roast was just a little suntanned - this heatwave is clearly getting to us all.
Went there on a very special day for us. With a group of 15. The staffs were awesome. efficient and effective.Chef was really nice came out to had a chat with us Food was beyond expectation. And the place is great for people of any age and got really lovely outside patio with a great atmosphere inside and out. Having watched the Guildford Raft Race on a blisteringly hot Saturday afternoon, we popped across to the Britannia for a cold bevvy. Not been here for at least 30 yrs. The atmosphere as soon as you walked in was warm and friendly. The staff were happy and helpful. I noticed a huge pile of different sized dog beds, so clearly a dog friendly pub. Good to know for those taking advantage of walks along the Wey with their pooch. We didn't eat here, but all had a good look at the menu, looked good and prices not bad for Guildford, the children's menu looked really good value. As we sat winding down ready to head home, the whole place was filling up around us, which I think speaks volumes. We do plan to have a bite to eat on next visit and that will be fairly soon. (Don't think I'll be around in 30yrs time! Hopefully, can leave some really helpful info.
Lovely pub. Great location. Good mix of people. Very friendly and efficient staff. Child and dog friendly they even have soft dog beds to take outside and gravy bones behind the bar!

Had a great stay here. Lovely home from home. Well decorated, kind reassuring welcome, very polite and kind host, ensured I was happy, and confident. Breakfast is straightforward, with fair choices - you can just get on with it and eat well, from a range of items, and the filter coffee was delicious - a highlight as coffee can often be disappointing. All facility's clean, and an easy walk to city centre / train station / university all of which I visited.
Super comfortable B&B in welcoming home We had such a great night's stay I felt compelled to write and recommend this lovely B&B and welcoming hostess. Our twin room was perfect with a gorgeous view over a tranquil garden. The beds were so comfortable and lovely pillows that it felt just like being at home. The room was very spacious and had a seating area, and tea and coffee facilities with great choice of herbal teas, hot chocolate and a cookie jar. Clean bathroom, fast wifi, hair dryer, and our hostess realising we were from Europe, even kindly put an adaptor for the power sockets in the room for us. Breakfast was great. Judith lays everything out and there are cold cuts and milk and juice in the fridge to help yourself. You make your own hot toast and the coffee machine is all ready and you just have to push the button for fresh brewed coffee. So much nicer than a greasy fry up! Great selection of cereals, jams, homemade marmalade and other spreads. We felt like we were staying with good friends and I would definitely return again next time I am in Guildford.

The whole experience was an absolute pleasure. From the moment the owner picked us up from the station to the comfortable and well equipped room, I cannot recommend this establishment highly enough. Extensive breakfast options and room cleanliness standards were continuously and subtly maintained throughout the stay. Furthermore, the location is fantastic: close to some great pubs and restaurants yet two minutes away from some stunning countryside.
I really liked the stay there. The room was well-equipped and tidy. The owner was very likeable and tried to make my experience the best possible. Don't be misled by a bad-looking backyard. Definitely recommend it.

A great place to stay for a few days if you need a reasonably priced room. There is cheaper in the area but it is worth paying to stay at this "budget" hotel because it really isn't budget at all. The service is a very high standard and the rooms are clean and quiet. Everything works and nothing missing like shampoo which is absolutely infuriating in some hotels. Then if you need something to eat there is a fantastic quiet enclosed pub style restaurant you can sit outside if you like. I highly resend this hotel for food and to stay.
Actually really nice, quiet room, nice and dark, good Aircon and clean. Heard bad things about the beefeater but didn't eat there. Would stay again
If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!
